Early Americans

Many of my ancestors have been in North America since it was first colonized in the early 1600s. Some of these noteworthy people are:

William Hilton (1585-June 30, 1656)
A Pilgrim who came to Plymouth, MA on the "Fortune" in 1621; his wife Mary Winslow and 2 children followed in the "Anne" in 1623.
The author's ninth great grandfather.

Mary Winslow (1585-June 30, 1656)
Along with two of their children followed her husband William Hilton to America on the "Anne" in 1623.

Simon Hoyt  (January 20, 1589/90-October 01, 1657)
It appears that Simon Hoyt landed in Salem in 1628 or 1629, perhaps by the Abigail or the George, and very soon, in 1628 or 1629, probably the latter year, went to Charlestown as one of its first settlers.

Richard Sealis (November 26, 1581-abt 1656)
In 1634 he emigrated to Scituate, Mass, USA with the Rev John Lothrop & his company.

Nicholas Danforth (March 01, 1587/88-February 1637/38)
Emigrated on the Griffin with his family in 1634. His son Thomas was the President of Maine between 1679 - 1686, the Lieutenant Governor of New Hampshire between 1690 - 1692 and and Associate Judge of the Superior Court from 1692 - 1699.

John Winchester (May 19, 1611-April 25, 1694)
On April 06, 1635 he left England for Boston, USA in the ship named "Elizabeth".

John Saunders (1572-September 28, 1643)
Came to Mass. in the Confidence on 11 Apr 1638 with 1st wife, Sarah, and his three servants, Roger Eastman, William Cottle, and Robert Ring.
The author's eighth and ninth great grandfather.

John Rolfe (April 24, 1589-March 29, 1664)
He came to MA in the Confidence on 11 Apr 1638. Settled in Salisbury; he moved to Newbury.
The author's ninth and tenth great grandfather.

Edward Wood (October 29, 1598-November 27, 1642)
He brought his family to Charlestown and was a baker there in 1639. He was granted land "on the Mistick side" in 1640 and 1642.  On May 13, 1640 he was made a freeman.

John Alcock (1604-June 21, 1673)
Came from England to York, Maine. His name appears June 16, 1643 when he bought a homestead in York.

Richard Banks (1607- January 25, 1691/92)
Came to America and settled at Scituate, in the Plymouth Colony. He took the Oath of Fidelity, in Scituate, circa 1642.

John Ogden (September 19, 1609-May 30, 1682)
Came to Southampton, Long Island, NY in 1640 with his wife Jane Bond Ogden, son John, and twins David and Jonathan. He was a leader among settlers in founding the town. He later moved to Stamford, CT, Hempstead, Long Island, back to Southampton, and in 1665 the was founder of Elizabethtown, NJ. In 1673 he was the acting Governor of East Jersey.
