During my search for my family I uncovered many interesting things.
One exciting fact was that I am descended from many United Empire
Loyalists. Following the American Revolution more than 20,000 loyalists
fled to Nova Scotia to rebuild their lives. They faced poverty,
adversity and disappointment in their new country. They were
unwanted both in the new United States and in their new home.
Perhaps that is why the Loyalist tradition in Nova Scotia has remained
strong and to this day it is considered a honor to be descended from
that brave group of immigrants. I am so very proud of my
ancestors and all that they accomplished. These are my loyalist
roots:
Jonathan Anderson born December 25, 1745 in Greenwich, Connecticut and
died January 15, 1809 at Granville, Nova Scotia. He and his wife Mary
Henderson born September 14, 1748 in Connecticut died June 01, 1827 in
Granville, Nova Scotia and emigrated to Nova Scotia in 1779. He was a
Lieutenant in the New York Volunteers. He received a Loyalist Land
Grant of 350 acres in Clements Township in 1784.
Christopher Benson
was a Loyalist from NY. He came to NY in 1760 and was a member of the
British Army (Loyalists) who settled at Annapolis after the Revolution -
